Vibroacoustic Waterbed Research & Nervous System Science
Great Awakening is developing a novel vibroacoustic waterbed system that combines sound,
vibration and warm water to support nervous-system regulation and deep relaxation. We are actively seeking
research partners, universities and sponsors to explore its impact in a structured way.
What Is Vibroacoustic Therapy?
Vibroacoustic therapy uses low-frequency sound vibration delivered directly to the body
through transducers. When paired with music, breath and intentional relaxation, it can help calm the
nervous system, soften muscular tension and support emotional release.
The vibroacoustic waterbed extends this approach by using a warm water mattress as the
medium for vibration, allowing the body to float and for frequency to travel through the entire system.
Why Water-Based Resonance?
Water is an excellent conductor of vibration. A vibroacoustic waterbed acts as a hydroacoustic
resonance chamber system, distributing sound waves in a more uniform, enveloping way than other surfaces.
This offers new possibilities for exploring:
- Whole-body mechanotransduction
- Polyvagal-informed nervous-system regulation
- Multisensory immersion for relaxation and emotional processing
Early Outcomes From 200+ Sessions
In community-based practice, more than 200 sessions have been facilitated on our vibroacoustic waterbed. Clients commonly report:
- Feeling at peace, calmer and more content
- Deep relaxation and improved sleep after sessions
- Release of tension and emotional burden
- Greater clarity, peace of mind and happier
Research Vision & Hypothesis
We envision collaborative studies exploring how vibroacoustic waterbed sessions influence:
- Heart rate variability (HRV) and markers of autonomic regulation
- Perceived stress and anxiety using validated questionnaires
- Sleep quality and depth of rest
- Mood, emotional wellbeing and perceived quality of life
A central hypothesis is that a carefully designed combination of low-frequency vibration, warm water
support and sound immersion may facilitate shifts into parasympathetic dominance, allowing the body
to rest, reset and restore.
Potential Methodology
We are open to co-designing research protocols. Example study elements could include:
- Pre/post HRV, heart rate and breath-rate measurements
- Standardised stress, anxiety and mood scales
- Sleep diaries or wearable data where appropriate
- Qualitative interviews on emotional processing and felt sense of safety
- Comparisons between water-based and non-water-based vibroacoustic setups
All research would be framed within non-medical, complementary wellness contexts and aligned
with appropriate ethical review processes.
Potential Applications
Areas of interest for future research and application include:
- Stress reduction and burnout recovery
- Supportive care alongside trauma-informed therapy
- Sleep support and rest-based recovery
- Aged care, disability support and palliative settings
- Mental health, peak performance and creative flow
We welcome collaboration with universities, clinics, research centres and foundations exploring
nervous-system health and innovative wellness technologies.
